Preparing your tax return can be expensive. Some popular tax software programs cost more than $50 to file a federal return, plus additional fees to file state taxes. But your credit card can help you save $20 or more on taxes this year.

If you have a relatively simple return, you can save money by using online tax software. And you may be able to save even more thanks to credit card and other discounts available this tax season.

To help you get the best deal on your tax software costs, we reached out to several credit card issuers and online savings aggregators to compile a list of currently available offers. Here’s what we found and what you need to know before you sign up.

As these offers change, or more issuers respond, this page will be updated.

What you should know about tax preparation savings

There are a few stipulations to keep in mind if you want to save on taxes using your credit card or an online savings offer. Because they are often targeted offers, these offers can vary by issuer and even by account. They may be different depending on your specific card, your spending habits, and other factors.

You may need to sign up for the deal through your account and may even need to click through to a portal to make your purchase. For example, you can sign up for an Amex offer by logging into the mobile app and linking your eligible card. But some Citi offers require you to click through to your card account to go to an affiliate site where the offer is located.

Another factor to consider is the expiration dates of the available offers. Although Tax Day is April 18 this year, some offers may only be available through March, which means you’ll need to file early to qualify for savings. And the IRS recommends filing your return early this year anyway, due to expected delays in processing.

Here’s a roundup of all the tax preparation software deals we know about so far, and a few more tips from the experts to save on your tax preparation this year.

Other Tips for Finding Tax Preparation Deals

Online portals and credit card offers are great ways to save when you prepare and file taxes online, but they’re not the only options to put a few bucks back in your pocket. As you prepare to apply, it can pay to keep your eyes peeled for deals from other retailers or accounts you frequent. Here are more tips for saving on tax preparation software this year:

  • Check your email for promotions. The tax software companies you’ve used in the past are likely eager to welcome you this tax season. Some tax companies may send out promo codes that you can use to save when you file. Archiving with the same software can also save you time; If you saved your personal or tax information from previous years in your account, you may not need to re-enter it this year.
  • Pay attention to the companies you shop at regularly. Some partner with tax software companies to offer you a discount as a member or customer. Major retailers, like Costco and Target, may offer discounts when you purchase tax preparation software directly from them. These programs are different from online tax preparation, but they work in much the same way and allow you to electronically file your federal return.
  • Keep an eye out for deals on tax software websites. Programs like TurboTax or H&R Block sometimes offer deals on upgraded services, like expert tax assistance for the same price as other tax software services. “Those deals can be very valuable for those who don’t have super-simple returns but don’t want to pay full cost for premium products from these companies,” says Kristin McGrath, shopping expert at RetailMeNot.
  • See if you’re eligible for IRS Free File. With this option, you will be able to file your federal taxes for free. State tax preparation and filing may also be free. To qualify, your adjusted gross income must be less than $73,000.
  • Look for deals closer to the submission date. New offers may appear throughout tax season, so if you look closely when you’re ready to file, you may find new offers that weren’t available before.
